Chapter Creation Tools Overview

Theresa Huff

This section of the textbook provides practical tools, strategies, and guidance to support you in designing and publishing your own chapters. While these chapters were designed with learners from the ISU EDLT 7726 Learning Theories and the Design of Instruction course in mind, the information in this section will help any author make informed, ethical, and effective design choices. You’ll find guidance on copyright and licensing, working with OER, integrating interactive media, aligning your chapters to learning objectives, and making final edits in Pressbooks.

Here’s what you’ll find in this section:

  • Copyright, Public Domain, and Open Licenses
Understand the differences between copyright, public domain, and open licensing and how to apply them correctly when using or remixing content.

  • Open Education Resources (OER)
Learn what qualifies as an OER, where to find them, and how they support access and equity in education.

  • Remixing OER
Explore the art of adapting existing OER responsibly, blending, editing, and crediting content to make it work for your learning goals.

  • AI and the CRAFT Discussion Strategy
Discover how AI tools can support the creative process, and how the CRAFT strategy encourages reflection and ethical use of AI in your chapter design.

  • H5P
Learn how to create interactive, accessible learning activities using H5P and embed them into your chapters to engage readers.

  • Measurable Objectives and Instructional Alignment
Get support in writing clear, measurable objectives and aligning them to your content, activities, and assessments.

  • Final Pressbook Edits
Review your chapter for consistency, accessibility, metadata, and design polish before it’s published.

  • Course Tools and Resources
This chapter will collect all of the tools, templates, and links referenced throughout the course in one convenient place.

Together, these chapters are designed to guide you from first draft to final chapter, helping you create content that is clear, ethical, engaging, and ready to share openly.
