3 Integrate your CTSO into your Classroom

This is one of the most vital parts of being a CTSO advisor! You have the opportunity to bring real-world learning experiences into your classroom and simultaneously prepare students for competitions and events. Below are just a few ideas that teachers used to integrate their CTSO into their classroom:

  • Use past tests from prior leadership conferences

    • One teacher used these tests as assignments to pique interest. You might be able to recruit students to join your CTSO once they see the success they are having with it.
  • Assign projects that could be used as Torch Awards

    • This example is specific to BPA, however, it gives an idea of how you can incorporate appendages of your CTSO into your classroom. In BPA, students can earn points toward Torch Awards by completing certain activities that are related to your CTSO. You could incorporate these into your classroom, thus strengthening your chapter.
  • Scavenger hunt on the CTSO website

    • This is a great way to help your students get to know the CTSO you advise. You could complete this activity at the start of the school year, especially when many students are signing up for clubs and student organizations. This allows them to familiarize themselves with the website, get to know what the CTSO offers, and expose them to real-world learning opportunities.
