H5P Strategies with an LMS

Depending on certain settings configured by your LMS admin, the version of your LMS, and other factors may impact how you can utilize H5P. The following are different methods along with a pro or con that may help you decide which method works for you.

Locally Assign Roles

Add the H5P plugin to your Moodle Site. The H5P interactive content can then be added as an activity in the course. Create enough H5P for each student. Go to the Locally assign roles setting in Moodle and make a single student the unlisted teacher for that activity.

  • Lots of prep-time to create each activity then locally assign to students.
Lumi & Modified permissions

Students download the lumi.education app. Students are then able to build h5p offline. The instructor creates a forum, glossary, book, page and alters either the Locally assigned roles or Permissions so that students can embed their content.

Separate Course & Modified permissions

Create a sub-course and enroll/self-enroll all students as unlisted teachers. They will use this course to create their content and then download the .H5P content into the real course using the H5P embed button found in the editor.
  • Every student has access to their own H5P editor.
  • Control student access
  • Technically in a course
  • Maintain 2+ courses at a time.
  • Students may still have to upload the content to the correct course.

On the participant’s page, you can update and modify the permissions for the student role to give them access to the Content Bank and H5P embed button in the Atto editor.
