Unit 11: Confined Spaces and AQI

64 Unit 12: Confined Spaces and AQI

Confined spaces are defined asĀ an area with limited means of entry and exit, large enough for a person to fit into but is not designed for occupancy. Lots of industrial areas have confined spaces. These spaces have the potential to be dangerous. To enter a confined space, a worker must have the proper certifications and paperwork.

Air quality index or AQI is a measure of the quality of air inside a space or outside. Sometimes AQI within a building can be referred to as IAQ or Indoor Air Quality. This can be affected by lots of different variables. Mold, dust, smoke or chemicals can dramatically reduce the AQI. Workers who are experiencing symptoms such as respiratory problems, asthma and even pneumonia might be experiencing AQI issues.
