Discussion Questions: Library as Center of Information

  1. Libraries have existed for centuries for the benefit of their users. Describe how you have benefited from your school, public or academic library.
  2. How do you organize your personal items? Consider the categories, locations and descriptive terms you have given them. How does this help you access and use them? Is it an efficient system?
  3. Do a search on your topic in the library catalog of your academic institution. How many results are there? Do they have similar call numbers? Do the subject headings actually describe the material you are looking for? What other information in the record is helpful? Do the same search in the library catalog of your public library, and compare the results.
