8 Small Group Share
Overview |
This models a think / pair / share in a live class. |
Rationale |
Provides opportunities for learners to practice with the content in a small group setting before having to “report out” to the entire course. Reduces artifacts to grade as each group produces one final product. Is easily adaptable from smaller questions up through larger projects. |
When this works well |
This is a great way to have discussion with larger classes. |

Instructions for Learners and Faculty
This is an alternative format for any of the discussion types when you have a larger class. This works especially well for case studies.
- In a small group discussion, create a 2 – 3 paragraph response to the prompt.
- Post final to the Class Discussion.
- Ask questions of the other group’s final post.
- Respond to the question posed to your group.
Grading Criteria
You can use any of the discussion rubrics included, but you will need to make sure you communicate expectations for the small group and then the whole class post.
